Gratitude is a practice that helps to rewire our brains and change them from negativity to positivity.
It includes expressing gratitude for the help or kindness we have received from other people, counting our blessings, noticing the joy of small pleasures we experience, and acknowledging everything we receive.
If we are truly grateful, we will live our lives as if miracles are constantly happening to us, which we appreciate and we are constantly aware on what we are given.
It has been scientifically proven that gratitude brings many benefits to our lives. It makes us happier and more resilient, helps build and strengthens connections, improves health and reduces stress.
The father of positive psychology Prof. Martin Seligman, from the University of Pennsylvania, tested the impact of various positive interventions on 411 people. When the week's assignment was to write and personally deliver a letter of gratitude to someone who had never been properly thanked for his or her kindness, participants immediately exhibited a huge increase in happiness scores. This impact was greater than that from any other activity they made during the experiment, with benefits lasting for a month.
One of the reasons gratitude is so strong as a practice is that it helps people refocus on what they have instead of what they lack.
