In today's fast-paced world of tech, startups, and digital transformation, it is easy to feel frustrated when you are an experienced professional seeking your next role. I know this feeling personally: after deciding to return to corporate life, I have been met with a string of polite rejections or silent dismissals. The reasons? Too experienced. Too senior. Too expensive. No one says "too old," but the silence sometimes speaks loudly.
And yet, I remain committed. Not because I am chasing a job, but because I am following a
calling. A calling to contribute. To support. To co-create.
What helps me stay grounded, hopeful, and resilient through this uncertain journey? One word:
Mindfulness.
The Mindfulness Mindset for Career TransitionsIn our training course “Mindfulness for self-awareness and productivity” at Happiness Academy, we teach mindfulness not just as meditation, but as a way of living - a way of understanding who we are, what we want, and how we respond to challenge.
When the job market feels unkind or disorienting, mindfulness offers three anchors:
1.
IntentionWhat is your inner compass pointing toward? For me, it is about meaningful contribution, emotional intelligence, and being of service to courageous leaders. Keeping this intention close helps filter the noise and guide each step with clarity.
2.
AttentionWhere is your energy going? Mindfulness helps us gently bring back focus from worry, comparison, or regret. It reminds us that we can only act from this moment - and that how we show up today matters more than what happened yesterday.
3.
AttitudeHow do you treat yourself when things don’t go as planned? In mindfulness, we cultivate kindness, patience, curiosity, and trust. These are not just nice ideas - they are essential tools for staying whole when external feedback is scarce.
Rejection Is Not a Sign to Stop. It is a Cue to Reflect.
Every "no" gives us space to return to ourselves. To ask:
- What did I learn from this?
- What does it tell me about what I really want?
- What inner muscle can I strengthen?
Mindfulness teaches us that
we don’t have to resist reality. We can meet it, learn from it, and move through it with grace.
So, if you too are in a career transition - especially if you are 50+, full of energy and willingness to contribute, and feeling frustrated - know this:
you are not behind. You are becoming. Let your next chapter be built from presence, not pressure.
From My Heart to YoursI still apply. I still hear no. But I breathe. I trust. I choose my attitude. And I keep walking.
If you are navigating a similar path, I invite you to explore the mindfulness principles we teach at Happiness Academy. I am happy to share some of them with you. They are not a solution to rejection. But they are a roadmap to resilience.
Let’s keep walking it. Together.
