February - the Month of Kindness in Happiness Accelerator

We, in Happiness Accelerator, are dedicating the month of February to kindness. Follow the daily tasks and motivational information in our mobile application to build the habits of the kindest people.

As the Dalai Lama said "There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.”

What is kindness for you? Generally speaking, kindness is being nice with others. It includes being generous, giving part or your time, money and other resources for the benefit of other people’s well-being.

Kindness has many benefits, the most important of which are that it makes us happier, improves our heart function and improves our relationships with people.

Kindness and happiness

We feel good when we help others. Scientific research on the biochemistry of the brain shows that a good deed increases the level of dopamine in our brain, which leads to a feeling of elevation. This is why kindness increases our happiness level.

Kind heart - healthy heart

Our good deeds also give us a feeling of warmth and love. This helps in the production of the hormone oxytocin, in our brain. Recent findings suggest that oxytocin plays an important role in the healthy functioning of our cardiovascular system. Oxytocin causes the release of a chemical called nitric oxide in the blood vessels, which dilates the blood vessels. It lowers blood pressure, which is why oxytocin is known as a 'cardioprotective' hormone.

Experiments have shown that helping others support our heart health more than taking aspirin. People over the age of 55 who volunteer are 44% less likely to die. Volunteering is better for our health than going to church regularly or exercising four times a week, it is almost as good for our health as quitting smoking! More acts of kindness - stronger connections

We don't even need proof of that fact. We all know that we like kind people more than those who have not been good to us. Kindness can help us to "break the ice" and to build stronger relationships with the people who are important to us.

Evolutionarily, our ancestors would not have survived if they had not formed tribes and helped each other.

To enjoy the benefits of kindness, we just have to do acts of kindness.

Let us dedicate the month of February together, do every day at least one act of kindness.

Kindness is contagious, it creates a ripple effect. Our kind acts will be multiplied by many.
